CHRISTINA PIERCING ORIGIN: - The Christina piercing is another more modern piercing. As piercing becomes more popular many new placements are being experimented with. Those that work and become popular take off slowly and gradually become common piercings.
The Christina is one of those that is rapidly becoming popular more for it's look than practicality.
PLACEMENT: - This piercing is placed at the top '^' on the vagina. It is for all intensive purposes a very low pubic piercing done in the center front above the clitoris and vulva, where the two outer labia meet. It is essentially the same as a navel piercing to do because of the shape of the area.
It needs to be placed well to be comfortable - not too high or too low and at a depth of approx. 12mm. Depending on the jewelry being used. Generally a 1.6mm x 12mm Titanium Ball Closure Ring would be the best choice although a PTFE bar could also be used.
RISKS:-
Placement is important for the look of this piercing because if it is crooked it will look crooked and sit badly. The major risk with this piercing is infection during healing caused by the pubic hair getting into the piercing.
Another risk is that it may catch on clothing or during intercourse causing it to tear. This is not a major risk or problem but it's placement makes it prone to catching.
If the piercing is too shallow however, it may be inclined to tear out.
This piercing is similar again to the Navel to heal and care needs to be taken to keep it clean and free from fluff.
HEALING:- This is a topic that is very controversial as each piercer has different ideas on what heals. Basically the skin needs time to form a tube of scar tissue around the piercing. You could expect this to take between 4 to 8 weeks to heal. Everyone is different.
We recommend using salt water and Betadine liquid. You can use saline solution or make up your own by using 1 cup of boiled water and 1/2 tsp. of salt.
Betadine - There is controversy over Betadine Liquid as it can impede cell generation and therefore slow healing. However it is great for killing bacteria and so we say use it sparingly once a day and then once every second day as the piercing heals providing you use salt water to help keep your piercing dry it should not cultivate bacteria easily.
Do NOT USE - Cotton wool, tissues or anything fibrous to clean your piercing - use your fingers - the fibers can enter the piercing and cause a splinter reaction which will cause the piercing to migrate.
Avoid swimming pools as the chlorine does not kill all of the germs and this is a place where infections can start.
Any problems see our GENERAL HEALING page.
