Isabella

ISABELLA PIERCING ORIGIN: - The Isabella is also a new or modern piercing. Because it is a more major female genital piercing it is not as common as the labia or even clitoral hood piercing.

PLACEMENT: - This piercing is basically a reverse Triangle piercing. It goes behind the clitoris and up through the clitoral hood. As with the Triangle it is a piercing that really needs a professional with experience to do it.

I have this piercing and it is comfortable to wear and has a long barbell in it. It needs to be placed not too high on the clitoral hood as this will get pressure from the fatty tissue on the pubic bone. (Placement will also depend upon the client's shape.)

It goes through the base of the clitoris and as with the triangle it cannot be too deep or it runs the risk of hitting the urethra. An experienced piercer will be able to feel the urethra and make sure they miss it. This piercing runs up into the base of the clitoral hood which seems to be a sensitive area and this may be uncomfortable for the client. This means that it needs to be placed accurately and done very quickly so as not to allow time for movement.

RISKS:-

Placement is VERY important for the safety of this piercing as if done too deep it will cut into the urethra and cause urinary tract problems. If done too roughly swelling to the urethra can also cause a urinary tract infection.

As the skin here is soft if the balls on the bar are too small they can actually pull inside the piercing and cause it to be uncomfortable or can get stuck inside the piercing. This needs to be avoided - no smaller than 6mm balls should be used.

As for healing it takes a little longer than the clitoris to heal as it is a little deeper but is not a painful healing process.

I recommend taking a squirt bottle of salt water to the toilet and squirt off and pat dry gently. This along with rinsing after the shower and the use of some Betadine Liquid should promote fast healing.

HEALING:- This is a topic that is very controversial as each piercer has different ideas on what heals. Basically the skin needs time to form a tube of scar tissue around the piercing. You could expect this to take between 4 to 8 weeks to heal. Everyone is different.

We recommend using salt water and Betadine liquid. You can use saline solution or make up your own by using 1 cup of boiled water and 1/2 tsp. of salt.

Betadine - There is controversy over Betadine Liquid as it can impede cell generation and therefore slow healing. However it is great for killing bacteria and so we say use it sparingly once a day and then once every second day as the piercing heals providing you use salt water to help keep your piercing dry it should not cultivate bacteria easily.

Do NOT USE - Cotton wool, tissues or anything fibrous to clean your piercing - use your fingers - the fibers can enter the piercing and cause a splinter reaction which will cause the piercing to migrate.

Avoid swimming pools as the chlorine does not kill all of the germs and this is a place where infections can start.

Any problems see our GENERAL HEALING page.

ADVANTAGES:- There are many reasons for getting any piercing..
