SUCH FRIENDS ARE DANGEROUS AUSSIES TOLD
As the Woomera atomic tests draw near, security officials in Canberra last night warned Australian Civil Servants not to associate too much with Russian diplomats.
The Australian Premier, Mr Menzies, side-stepped a demand by the Opposition
that he should state "in the plainest terms" that a cobalt bomb would not be exploded in Australia.
All that Menzies would say was that the atom tests would involve no danger to the people of Australia.
'Don't Kick Sandys'
He said also that "any kicks" over BBC representation at Woomera during the visit of Mr. Sandys British Supply Minister, should be directed "at us, not Mr Sandys".

Web Master's notes;
- Mr Menzies's correct title was Prime Minister.
- Mr Sandys and other VIPs visited Emu Claypan on 3 September 1953 by RAAF Dakota A65-122. The first atomic explosion was about 6 weeks away.
