Rose Guide

September

Vegetables: Plant tomatoes and new season's seedlings. If frosts are still a problem in your area keep tomatoes well covered. Before planting, locate an area of full sun and prepare soil with compost. Raise beds to improve drainage.

Lawns: Preparation was done last month, now it's time to sow your new lawn. Rake over soil, then spread seed evenly over the desired area. Rake again or tread lightly over the seed. Water with a fine, misty spray and keep damp at all times. Wait for the the lawns to reach 5cm to 6cm and then just trim the top off.

General: Re-plant your gladioli and dahlia bulbs, prune fuchsias and geraniums lightly to encourage growth. Sow nasturtium, marigolds, petunias and salvia.
