Introducing The Plants

Did you know that:

  • There are more than 400,000 different plant species that have have been found on earth. These plants grow both on land and in fresh and salt waters.

  • Most life on earth would not exist without plants. Not only are they a food source for many animals, but they give off the oxygen that animals need to breathe.

  • Plants also provide people with medicines, building materials, and fabrics for clothing.

  • The oldest plants on earth are much much older than any animals. One bristlecone pine is at least 4,600 years old.

  • The tallest trees are much taller than any animal. Some trees grow to more than 112m tall.

  • Some types of plants have been on earth since before the dinosaurs. The cycads still grow in many countries around the world including Australia.
