Introducing
The Plants
Did
you know that:
- There
are more than 400,000 different plant species that have have been found
on earth. These plants grow both on land and in fresh and salt waters.
- Most
life on earth would not exist without plants. Not only are they a food
source for many animals, but they give off the oxygen that animals need
to breathe.
- Plants
also provide people with medicines, building materials, and fabrics
for clothing.
- The
oldest plants on earth are much much older than any animals. One bristlecone
pine is at least 4,600 years old.
- The
tallest trees are much taller than any animal. Some trees grow to more
than 112m tall.
- Some
types of plants have been on earth since before the dinosaurs. The cycads
still grow in many countries around the world including Australia.
