Seeds That Spread

Once the pollen makes its way down the stigma to the ovaries the ovum in the avary begin to develop into seeds. These seeds are the way that most plants reproduce or grow new plants.

Each seed is a complete new plant with leaves, shoots and roots inside them waiting for just the right conditions to germinate or begin to grow.

These new seeds are protected by a coat. This coat can be very thin or very thick and hard. Having a thin skin lets the seed grow quicker. The thicker skins help to give the seed more protection.

Most seeds are quite dry and need water to make them start to grow. Each seed also has a supply of food that the plant uses to start growing.

Seeds come in a range of shapes and sizes.
