TRAGUS PIERCING ORIGIN: - This is another Modern piercing and has become really popular in Australia in the past two years. We have seen a huge range of different ear piercings evolve. We often see people getting a tragus instead of the earlobe and it can be grouped with other ear piercings or just done as a solitary piercing.
PLACEMENT: - It is placed in the small piece of cartilage in the center of the ear in front of the orifice.
This is smaller in some people and larger in others - larger tragus's are easier to pierce but at Body Pleasure we have designed special equipment and methods to enable us to do the smallest of tragus's.
A 1.2 x 9mm ring is the best choice to allow for fast healing and it should be measured so that the ring will fit into the small groove that runs next to the face and above the lobe. This enables it to sit comfortably and helps during the healing stage as well as looking nice.
RISKS:- This piercing is hard to clean and see because f it's position. It is a piercing that needs extra care when healing it to avoid infection because of it's location. If this piercing were to get badly infected it has the potential to cause an inner ear infection. Any sign of infection should be treated seriously.
Because it is a cartilage piercing care needs to be taken to ensure that the ring is a loose fit and that it is pierced correctly.
Healing: The Tragus if pierced correctly should take about 3 to 6 weeks to heal. The area may be tender for some time and sleeping on it may be a little uncomfortable. Some people experience headaches after this piercing due to swelling which puts pressure on the nerve that runs close to the ear in the head. Headaches have been reported to last from a day or two up to 2 weeks. Anti inflammatory pain relief such as ibuprofen may help to reduce the severity and length of these headaches.
Keep the area clean and rinse it with your fingers and cooled boiled water after showering to make sure that no shampoo or soap residue is left inside the piercing. Avoid having your hair coloured, permed or cut in the week or two after having this piercing done as the chemicals and hair particles can be a cause of infection. Once healed this will not be a problem so if you are after the hair style to accompany the piercing, do the hair first!
Don't use cotton buds etc. as the fibers can get into you piercing and cause problems.
Apply salt water and Batadine solution as general aids but it is most important just to keep it clean and rinsed and give it time.

To make a statement and be different - although they are quite common now.
Sexual reasons they can be attractive and some people just love their piercings no matter where they are.
Medical reasons - there are no real Medical reasons for Tragus piercing.
